Assignment Tracker
Use our free Assignment Tracker to manage homework, projects, and academic deadlines. Stay organized with priority levels, status tracking, and overdue alerts.
Why Use an Assignment Tracker?
Research shows that students who actively track deadlines are 30–40% less likely to miss submissions. An assignment tracker helps you visualize your workload, prioritize tasks using urgency and importance, and break large projects into manageable steps.
Add assignments with a course name, due date, priority level, and status. Your data is saved locally in your browser so it persists between visits. Sort by due date automatically, track overdue items, and monitor your completion rate at a glance.

FAQ – Assignment Tracker
What is an assignment tracker?
An assignment tracker is a tool that helps students organize homework, projects, and academic deadlines in one place. It lets you add tasks with due dates, priority levels, and completion status so you can visualize your workload and avoid missing submissions.
Is my data saved between visits?
Yes. All assignments are saved in your browser's local storage, so they persist when you close and reopen the page. However, clearing your browser data or using a different browser/device will reset the list. For permanent backup, consider copying your assignments to a separate document periodically.
How should I prioritize my assignments?
Use the Eisenhower Matrix: tasks that are both urgent and important get "Urgent" priority, important but not time-sensitive tasks get "High," routine tasks with upcoming deadlines get "Medium," and optional or distant tasks get "Low." Always consider both the due date and the weight of the assignment in your grade.
What do the status options mean?
"Not Started" means you haven't begun work yet. "In Progress" means you've started but haven't finished. "Completed" means the assignment is done and ready to submit or already submitted. Completed assignments appear highlighted in green so you can quickly see what's left.
How does the overdue detection work?
The tracker compares each assignment's due date to today's date. If the due date has passed and the status isn't "Completed," it's marked as overdue with a red warning. Assignments due today or tomorrow are highlighted in yellow as "due soon" to give you advance notice.
Can I edit an assignment after adding it?
You can change the status directly from the table using the dropdown. To change other details like the name, course, or due date, remove the assignment and re-add it with the correct information. This keeps the interface simple and fast.
How are assignments sorted?
Assignments are automatically sorted by due date (earliest first). When two assignments share the same due date, they're sorted by priority (Urgent > High > Medium > Low). This ensures the most time-sensitive and important tasks always appear at the top.
What is the summary section?
The summary shows a real-time overview of your workload: total assignments, how many are completed, in progress, not started, overdue, and due within the next 3 days. It updates automatically whenever you add, remove, or change the status of an assignment.
How far in advance should I start assignments?
A good rule of thumb: start at least 2× the estimated work time before the deadline. For a 5-hour essay, start 10 hours (about 2–3 days) before it's due. For research papers, start 2–3 weeks early. This accounts for unexpected delays, revision time, and reduces stress.
Can I use this tracker for work or personal tasks?
Absolutely. While designed for academic assignments, the tracker works for any task with a deadline. Use the "Course" field for project names or categories, and the priority/status system applies to any type of work — freelance projects, household tasks, or professional deadlines.
