Business Days Calculator

Easily calculate the number of business days between two dates with our free Business Days Calculator. Excludes weekends and holidays—ideal for payroll, project planning, and scheduling tasks.

Why Use a Business Days Calculator?

Many deadlines, contracts, and payroll periods are measured in business days (working days), not calendar days. A "10 business day" deadline doesn't mean 10 calendar days — it means 10 weekdays, which is actually 14 calendar days (2 full weeks). Add holidays and the math gets even trickier.

This calculator counts working days between two dates, automatically excluding weekends (Saturday & Sunday). You can also enter custom holidays to exclude from the count — perfect for payroll, project planning, legal deadlines, and shipping estimates.

FAQ – Business Days Calculator

What is a Business Days Calculator?

A Business Days Calculator determines the number of working days (typically Monday to Friday) between two dates, excluding weekends and optionally public holidays. It's useful for project planning, payroll, and scheduling.

How does the Business Days Calculator work?

Enter a start date and an end date. The calculator counts all weekdays between them and subtracts weekends and any holidays you specify to give the total number of business days.

Does the calculator exclude weekends automatically?

Yes, by default. The "Exclude Saturdays and Sundays" option is checked. You can uncheck it if your work schedule includes weekends.

Can I add public holidays to the calculation?

Yes. Enter holiday dates in YYYY-MM-DD format in the holidays field, one per line or comma-separated. The calculator will exclude these dates from the business day count.

How are holidays on weekends handled?

If a holiday falls on a weekend, it's already excluded by the weekend rule and won't be double-counted. The holiday count only shows holidays that fall on weekdays.

Can I use this for payroll calculations?

Yes. It's ideal for HR and payroll, helping calculate the number of payable working days between two pay periods. Add your company's holidays for accurate results.

Does it handle leap years?

Yes. The calculator automatically adjusts for leap years when counting business days, ensuring precise date differences across all calendar years.

What about different workweeks (e.g., Sunday–Thursday)?

This calculator uses the standard Monday–Friday workweek. For non-standard workweeks, uncheck the weekend exclusion and manually account for your rest days using the holidays field.

How many business days are in a year?

A standard year has approximately 261 business days (365 days minus 104 weekend days). After subtracting typical public holidays (10–11 in the US), the actual working days are around 250–251.

Is the start date included in the count?

Yes. Both the start date and end date are included in the calculation. If the start date is a business day, it counts as day 1.
